[03:17] The role of soul contracts before and after your birth
Before you incarnate, your soul is in the spirit world. As you're gearing up, getting ready to enter the world, you sit down with your guides and your team. This is where you decide what you want to do and your team works together to figure it all out, coming up with your soul contract. Your soul contract is what your soul makes for its learning, expansion, and growth in this lifetime. You make contracts with other souls that may be coming in to help and support you on
the way.
After you're born, you have the job of growing up and living your life. It's a job of remembering, because you already inherently know what your soul contract is, so you don’t have to discover it. It's remembering who you are on a soul level. Sometimes you’ll immediately know and other times, it may take years of serious reflection to understand that what you were going through was tied to your soul contracts.
[05:21] Why soul contracts aren’t black and white
You can't look at soul contracts in terms of black and white, right or wrong. Whether you’re on track or not, you are still learning something. You may just be learning it in a different way than you originally intended when you created your contract. Jessica sees soul contracts as a highway. You can be going with the flow of traffic on a soul contract, or you could be riding in the fast or slow lane, even driving against traffic. Regardless of how you’re driving on this highway, you’re still going to get from point A to point B.
It’s important to remember that freewill plays a part in this journey, because it often is ignored, but we do have a choice. We have a choice about how we learn, experience, show up or don't show up for our contract. We even have the free will to break a contract. It’s in those moments where we recognize freewill that we can really dig deep and find ourselves, understand where and who we are, who we want to become and make a choice from there,
[07:35] The idea of toxic soul contracts
Can there be toxic soul contracts? Yes, but you should know that they weren’t toxic when you made them. If we’re talking about pre-incarnation, pre-birth, we’re making these soul contracts with loving intention and then sometimes things go a bit sideways after we’re born. People don’t always show up as their full selves, or they’re showing up as their traumatized self. Trauma is something that isn’t anticipated when we are creating soul contracts, because time works differently up there than it does on Earth. So, you never make a toxic soul contract with someone, but a contract can turn toxic. Earth is hard, and the souls you initially made the contract with can forget who they are and they make different choices that we have to live with, choices that we have no control over. You are never required to carry out a soul contract that has turned toxic.
[09:38] Uncovering soul lessons and intentions in your contract
Soul contracts hold soul lessons, and there are a ton of them. Within those lessons, we can find our purpose. It’s important to note that there’s more than one purpose and more than one way to achieve that purpose. Andrea gives an example of someone meant to be a nurse or a caregiver. As a child, people may say over and over that they’re going to be a nurse, but when they grow up they are not anywhere near becoming a nurse. However, they are caring and ministering for people in a different way that still ties into a nurse archetype, so it does still fill in their purpose. This also ties into your contracts about intentions. Contracts can be considered your soul level intentions. You came down with an intention, even though the situation may end up looking different here on Earth because of other influences that are out of our control.
[12:35] How you know you have a soul contract with someone
When it comes to having a soul contract with someone, sometimes you’ll know right away and other times you may not know at all. In your contract there are going to be destiny points, points where someone is going to show up for you. In those moments, you can choose not to gravitate to each other. With Jessica and Andrea, they both felt that there was a reason they ran into each other and they chose to continue that connection, eventually finding that they have a multi-layered soul contract. In other contracts, where people who come into your life are challenging, the contract they bring may uncover some things that need more of your attention.
[18:07] Short-term soul contracts
Not every soul contract has to be as intense as what Andrea and Jessica have and they don’t all have to be long-haul contracts like marriage. In fact, a lot of them are smaller, even being as small as a moment. These short-term contracts are still able to help you understand more about yourself and can present themselves on an individual, community, or generational level.
[23:07] A listener’s question
An AWS listener emailed a question regarding soul contracts. If they went to school with 150 people, do they have 150 soul contracts, or just soul contracts with their close friends? While people will show up on your journey, like the 150 other students you went to school with, they’re not necessarily in contract with you. They act as supporting actors, setting up the background of the environment in which you and your close friends have soul contracts. Some of those other students may also have momentary soul contracts, such as giving a smile when someone needs it.
[25:01] When contracts end
Soul contracts may come to an end, whether they are fulfilled or you choose to end them. This can be seen in a lot of friendships that have fallen away after a period of time. What happens is that you have learned the intended lesson and the contract has been fulfilled. There are also relationships that we choose to end because they are contracts that have turned toxic, which was not accounted for when we sat down to make our contracts pre-incarnation. Regardless of how they may end, it’s important to remember that not all contracts are meant to be your entire life, and that it’s okay to let go.
[29:11] What to do with a soul contract
Have you ever suspected you may have a soul contract with someone but you’re not really sure what to do with it? Andrea provided a few questions you can ponder to help you come to a better understanding of what your soul contract may be.
Why does it feel like there's a soul contract with this person?
How is this person showing up in my life?
What are the opportunities, experiences, lessons that are coming with this person? Why is that helpful to me?
[33:50] One of Jessica’s favorite soul contract experiences
When Jessica lived in New York in her 20s, she met and formed a friendship with an amazing person who she felt like she had known forever. Eventually their lives moved in different directions, which Jessica had thought was strange because she had felt that she would know this woman forever. About 8 years later, they found each other again online and began their friendship again. Shortly after, Jessica’s friend lost her husband and was dealing with feelings of loneliness and having to start over. Jessica herself was also feeling a bit lost as her husband was deployed and she was home with their baby. Jessica and this woman began to spend a lot of time together again and helped each other through very difficult life situations. Jessica believes this was a magical expression of a soul contract and the ebb and flow they can have.
[40:08] Writing the contract vs the script of a soul contract
Soul contracts will have their ups and downs and twists and turns. While you created your contracts with loving intention, you didn’t necessarily write the script, so no one has directions on how the contract will play out. People will sometimes forget what the intention of the soul contract was and they will go off script, which can sometimes result in a toxic or abusive situation. Know that you do not have to stay in a soul contract that has turned toxic.
[42:53] Andrea and Jessica’s summary of soul contracts
From the existence to fulfillment to the breaking of them, soul contracts hold value in healing in all of the different stages. Andrea and Jessica want to remind you to make sure that you're expressing yourself in a positive way and staying in something that's healthy, and if it's not healthy then ask yourself why that may be. What needs to be learned? How do you keep moving forward?
