What happens when a psychic reading doesn’t come “true”?

Here are a few things to remember when a reading doesn’t come “true” and what you can do about it

We were pondering this very question on a business call earlier this week because of an experience I was having.

Well over a year ago, I had a couple of readings from two very good psychics, and I also had done a few readings on my own, about a topic that I was curious about. All the readings were in alignment with each other and they said the same thing (pointed in the same direction).

A few months after those readings, everything in my life got turned on its head and when I surfaced again, I couldn’t help but think about those readings. Were they right? Or had all of us psychics gotten it “wrong”?

Normally with readings that don’t end up coming to fruition, I let them go and move on without a second thought. Energy changes and paths forward shift, but for all of us to receive the same message and be so sure and then it didn’t turn out that way at all….it was so odd.

It was during my discussion with Andrea about this, that I realized I had fallen into a really common situation that we both see all the time–latching onto a reading or readings and then trying to make those fit or make sense, even after things change drastically.

I felt so silly. I’m a professional reader and “should know better.” But here’s the thing: This happens to EVERYONE–even the pros. Why? We’re human and we’re just trying to make sense of our experience, so we hold onto things in an attempt to navigate the unexpected. And that’s ok.

Here are a few things to remember, when a reading doesn’t come “true”:

  • Energy changes quickly. The reading was true, in the moment it was read, but things changed. It could be because of things beyond (or even in) your control change, affecting the outcome. Or there was a shift somewhere along the way and the trajectory shifted along with it.
  • The psychic energy/information was misinterpreted. Here the message coming through was correct, but the way it was interpreted was “off”, so the connections that were made were “off”. This doesn’t mean the reading was wrong. It just means the way the message was applied was slightly askew.
  • Your expectations got in the way. This happens all the time, to all the people. You go in knowing what you want to hear and then when the psychic gives you something that even slightly aligns with what you want, you make it fit. Then the whole dang reading is off. This is sort of in the same vein of asking the “wrong question”. It’s why I teach the Art of Asking a Question in my tarot classes– because it truly is an art form.
  • Who the hell knows what happened, but something did. This is my favorite one. It was true at that moment; it’s not true now. Only the Universe really knows what the heck happened, as to why it didn’t unfold. This one you sort of just shrug and let it go.
  • The reader was wrong. This legit happens, especially with folks who are new to reading for others or themselves OR who just aren’t good readers. The issue with this one is people automatically default to it. This is usually my last resort as an explanation, unless I know for sure it was a shady reading.

So what can you do about a reading that doesn’t come “true”?

  • Take a step back. Give yourself some space to process and think about what may have gone wrong.
  • Get perspective. Really look at the reading. This means you take a look at the most basic elements and themes and “re-read” it for yourself. You may find that you just misinterpreted the info coming through and the reading does actually make sense.
  • Let it go. This is our fav option. Not all readings go somewhere.

So, what did I do with my “untrue” reading? The 3 above steps. I realized I had hyper fixated on an outcome and took a step back. I took a look at the reading and broke it down to its most basic message: Things are going to change in a big way, but it will be an upwardly mobile change overall. (This theme turned out to be true–just not in the way I thought it would be.) And then I just let it go. There wasn’t anything more I could do with it and it was time to make space for a new way forward.

If you’re curious about different things you can do personally to help get the most out of a reading, you’re going to want to check out our podcast from Season 1, Episode 20 , How to Get the Most Out of a Reading. And then tune in next week for our final episode of Season 2 where we do LIVE listener readings!

PS We’ve finally come up with a theme for Season 3 and we cannot wait to share it with you…stay tuned!!
